Dear Parents,
At Schneider Children's Medical Center we ensure that babies in our care will receive their baby formula in the safest way suited to their medical condition and age.
What is a formula?
Baby formula is a ready-made food or powdered food prepared with water whose ingredients are adapted to babies growth and development needs. Some of you may be familiar with the term formula, but we usually use Baby Formula.
Basic formulas are based on cow's milk with additional various fats, vitamins, and minerals. There are also soy-based formulas or ones for complicated health conditions. It is not recommended to choose a special formula without the instruction of a doctor or dietitian.
Formulas at Schneider Children's - Quality Assurance:
- Our staff does everything to ensure that the formulas we use are fresh, of good quality and maintain their nutritional value:
- The formula is prepared by a skilled and professional team only, strictly following the procedures of the Ministry of Health.
- The team prepares the formula in a specially designated kitchen, which is adapted to prepare baby food.
- The food is refrigerated immediately at the end of preparation, and the temperature is maintained and monitored.
- The formula is kept and refrigerated even when transported from the kitchen and when stored in the departments.
- We ensure that the formula is kept clean and safe from the moment it is prepared until it reaches you.
Types of formula at Schneider Children's:
We use a variety of formulas at the hospital.
If the compound your child consumes is not available at Schneider Children's: Parents must purchase the required compound and give it to the NICU staff.
The staff will put a sticker on the formula box with your child's identification information and pass it on to the kitchen staff.

Feeding:
- Ask the staff in the department for your child's bottle.
- Check that the formula you receive is marked with a sticker that matches your child's information.
- When your child asks or needs to eat, ask the nurse to place the bottle in the department's bottle warmer. The warmer is designed to heat the food and maintain the formula with maximum nutrition and sanitary
How long is the bottled formula usable?
Please note: You can use a prepared formula - including heating and feeding- within an hour from taking the bottle out of the refrigerator.
If your child hasn't finished eating formula within an hour (60 minutes) from removing the bottle from the refrigerator, pour out the contents of the bottle, even if there is still food in it.
It is forbidden to use leftover food after that limit of time.
Baby nutrition is essential for their recovery and health, your cooperation is important.
Wishing you good health,
Schneider Children's Medical Center staff
