New Appointment: Prof. Daniel Landau, Director of the Nephrology Institute

The management of Schneider Children's Medical Center has announced the appointment of the new Director of the Institute of Nephrology, Prof. Daniel Landau. He will take over from Prof. Miriam Davidovits who has retired.

Prof. Daniel Landau, married and a father of 3, has served as the Director of Pediatrics B at Schneider Children's for the past 5 years. Previously, he served as the Director of the Pediatric Nephrology Unit at Soroka Medical Center in Beer Sheba. Prof. Landau is a graduate of the Medical School at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and completed his specialty in Pediatrics at Soroka Medical Center. He sub-specialized in Pediatric Nephrology at the Children's Hospital in Washington, DC, USA. Prof. Landau played a central role in characterizing a number of new genetic diseases of the kidneys and has for the past several years conducted lab research into the mechanisms of low-stature and anemia in chronic renal disease. Prof. Landau serves as a professor at the Sackler Faculty of Medicine at Tel Aviv University.

The Institute of Nephrology at Schneider Children's is a national referral center for renal failure, dialysis and kidney transplantation in children. Youngsters at different stages of chronic renal failure including terminal conditions, are treated in the Dialysis Unit. The staff in the Institute also treats children with a broad range of renal and urethral diseases including congenital disorders, urinary tract infections, kidney stones and high blood pressure.
