The gathering of two generations of nurses, mothers and daughters, was addressed by the Director of Nursing, Nurit Baruch, whose mother, Rivka Holi z”l, had also been a nurse.
A slide show displayed pictures of mothers when they were young nurses. They spoke about themselves and their rewarding careers and experiences. Some of them are still working and discussed being mothers and nurses at the same time. At the end of the event, participants heard a fascinating presentation by Dr. Irit Shwartz-Attias, Director of Nursing in the Rina Zaizov Hemato-Oncology Department, who provided tools to improve well-being and enjoyment in their professional and personal efforts. Dr. Shwartz-Attias, whose own mother was also a nurse, said emotionally, “there is no doubt that all of us left very excited and proud about being nurses! Thanks to our mothers, we inherited the love of a life career.”
Ms. Baruch praised the nurses’ professionalism, compassion, and sensitivity, and emphasized their huge dedication to the children in their care and their significant role in the success of treatment. “This important factor underscores that the values, diligence, warmth and caring our wonderful nurses received at home resulted in the outcrop of outstanding, professional second generation nurses. The hospital management and I are proud of our nurses at Schneider Children’s and wish them the very best on International Nurses Day.”
