The new clinic, the only one of its kind in Israel, was established to provide a broad response for children suffering from various illnesses of the thyroid gland, from the initial diagnosis, through treatment by medications or surgery, and follow-up care including psychosocial support.
The staff in the multidisciplinary clinic is comprised of specialists from various departments at Schneider Children’s: Prof. Moshe Phillip and Prof. Leora Harel from the Institute of Endocrinology and Diabetes, Prof. Gidon Bechar (Beilinson), Dr. Eyal Raveh and Dr. Roi Hod from the Department of Otolaryngology (ENT) and Head and Neck Surgery in Children, and physicians from the Departments of Hemato-Oncology, Imaging, Pulmonology, Pathology and Nuclear Medicine. The clinic will provide a response to the full range of pediatric thyroid conditions.
Dr. Hod noted that “the multidisciplinary clinic will accord the ideal integration of knowledge, experience and resources that will allow us to offer individual treatment for each child according to his needs, while providing professional consultation and support for parents.”
Over the past decade, more than 100 children with thyroid problems have undergone surgery at Schneider Children’s, and numbers grow each year. This rate is on a par with other larger medical centers around the world which treat these diseases.
